Introduction

Dr Victor Seah is a double-fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon in Singapore. He has a special interest in Orthopaedic trauma and geriatric osteoporotic fractures and is well versed in foot and ankle surgery as well.

Dr Victor Seah graduated with an MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 2000 and started his speciality training in 2005. He then obtained the Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2006 from the National University of Singapore. Dr Seah completed his post-graduate exams and was conferred a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2009.

He was awarded the Ministry of Health Health Manpower Development Programme Award to further his training with fellowships in Orthopaedic Traumatology in the Charite University of Medicine in Berlin, and a Foot and Ankle fellowship in Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden Germany from 2010 to 2011. It was in these tertiary centres that Dr Seah acquired skills and experience in treating patients with complex fractures and trauma, as well as the latest techniques in Foot and Ankle Surgery. Upon his return to Singapore, he was put in charge of the Trauma service for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Dr Seah was actively involved in the care of trauma patients and was the trauma team leader for the Orthopaedic Department in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Dr Seah is also passionate in the care of geriatric patients and patients with osteoporosis. He was also appointed by Ministry of Health to be a member of the Osteoporotic Hip Fracture Clinical Practice Guideline workgroup, formulating the best practice guidelines for the treatment of patients with Osteoporotic Fractures. He was also a member of the Ministry of Health Integrated Care Pathway Workgroup for hip fractures in the elderly. Dr Seah also lead a multidisciplinary team in developing Khoo Teck Puat Hospital’s inaugural Integrated Practice Unit for geriatric hip fractures.

Dr Seah is deeply involved in teaching and training of young surgeons. He held the concurrent appointments of Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, as well as a Clinical Core Faculty of the National Healthcare Group and AlexandraHealth Orthopaedic Residency Programme. He was also involved in the development of the curriculum at the new Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. In addition, Dr Seah completed a course in clinical education at the Harvard-Macy Institute in 2013.

Dr Seah is an active international and regional faculty of AOTrauma, which is the foremost academic organization in the field of orthopaedics and trauma-based in Switzerland. He has been invited many times to lecture and train orthopaedic surgeons in Singapore and regional countries such as China, India and Indonesia. He was also the chairperson of the AOTrauma Singapore Principles Course in 2013, as well as the Scientific Chairperson of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association – Combined ASEAN Orthopaedic Association Scientific Congress in 2015.
