Dr Kevin Lee’s Patient Recovers From A Knee Injury In 2 Months To Complete The Boston Marathon 2014 In A PB Timing

knee injury Dr Kevin Lee's patient Greg Karpinski suffered a knee injury in his right knee during a skiing accident in February 2014. He tore his medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the medial patella retinaculum. He still wanted to run the Boston Marathon which was in 2 months' time. To speed up the recovery, he was put on a brace and given 2 injections of platelet rich plasma (PRP) under ultrasound guidance. Here is his story after he completed the marathon in a personal best time ! " I would like to express my profound appreciation for your excellent talents and the exceptional care that you provided to me when I was injured back in February. As predicted and promised I did in fact have the honor to compete in the Boston Marathon that was run on April 21st. It was a truly amazing day, with incredible emotion in the air given the anniversary of the bombing. One million fans screaming and yelling for 42km was an experience of a lifetime. I was privileged to run for an outstanding charity, the Melanoma Foundation of New England, and together as a team we raised USD400,000 for the charity. Through the kindness and generosity of my friends and family I was able to raise USD29,000 and run in honor of my Grandmother who is a recent sufferer of the disease. The knee held up incredibly well. I completed the race in 4:20 a personal best and an improvement of 25 min over my previous marathon time. Through the half I was at 2:02 which was also a personal best by a considerable margin. Thank you again for your responsiveness, hands on care and kind attentions. Please also pass on my thanks to the staff at both your offices who were integral to my recovery. Best, GK " Read more about platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections in the treatment of muscle tears and other sports injuries.
