Regenerative Therapy in Orthopaedics

Regenerative Therapy in Orthopaedics

Regenerative therapy is a new approach in orthopaedics that uses your body’s own healing potential to treat joint pain, arthritis, sports injuries, and tendon problems. Instead of only managing symptoms, these treatments aim to repair, restore and support natural healing.

At Pinnacle Orthopaedic Group, we offer advanced biologic therapies including:

These treatments are suitable for patients who want to reduce pain, delay surgery, or recover from sports injuries with less downtime.

Clinical Transparency & Regulatory Notice

Regarding Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Autologous Protein Solution (APS) Treatments:

The Ministry of Health (MOH) in Singapore has issued a consultation paper (Circular No. 56/2026) proposing potential modifications to licence conditions regarding the clinical provision and governance of orthopaedic biologic therapies, including PRP for low-grade knee osteoarthritis and APS.

Please note that these proposals are currently under administrative review and are not yet in final legal effect. Our practice is actively engaged in the formal consultation process to ensure that evidence-based, minimally invasive treatment options remain accessible to appropriate patients.

All treatments at our clinic are administered following a thorough individual clinical evaluation, detailed informed consent regarding current clinical evidence and uncertainties, and in strict adherence to established regulatory standards. We are committed to patient safety and transparent clinical communication.

If you have questions about how these evolving guidelines may apply to your specific condition, please schedule a consultation with our specialists. We will provide an update once MOH has given us a formal reply to our written representation to them.

1. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is made by taking a small sample of your blood, spinning it in a centrifuge, and concentrating the platelets. Platelets release natural growth factors that may:

  • Reduce inflammation in joints and tendons
  • Stimulate tissue repair
  • Improve pain and function in conditions like muscle tears, knee arthritis, tennis elbow, and ligament injuries

FAQs

How many PRP injections will I need?
Usually 1–3 sessions depending on your condition.

Is PRP safe?
Yes, it uses your own blood, so risk of reaction is very low.

2. NStride APS Injection

NStride APS is a next-generation biologic therapy. It is also prepared from your own blood, but specifically concentrates anti-inflammatory proteins that block the chemicals causing joint inflammation.

This treatment is especially targeted for:

  • Knee osteoarthritis and cartilage injuries
  • Persistent joint inflammation not responding to simpler injections

Benefits:

  • Targets the source of inflammation in arthritis and potentially stimulate cartilage regeneration

3. Stem Cell Therapy (BMAC)

BMAC stands for *Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate*. A small sample of your bone marrow is taken (usually from the pelvis), and then concentrated to collect stem cells and growth factors.

How it helps:

  • Stem cells have the potential to repair damaged cartilage and tissue
  • May slow progression of arthritis
  • Useful in difficult cases where other injections have limited effect
  • Usually used in cartilage repair procedures to improve healing rates but can also be given as a standalone injection to stimulate healing

Note: BMAC is not suitable for every patient, and results vary. Our doctors will advise if it is appropriate for your condition.

Who Can Benefit from Regenerative Therapy?

Regenerative treatments may be considered if you have:

  • Early to moderate arthritis (knee, hip, shoulder)
  • Sports injuries (muscle, ligament, tendon, cartilage damage)
  • Pain not improving with medication, physiotherapy or standard injections
  • Wish to delay or avoid joint replacement surgery
