Porte suffers broken collarbone and pelvis in Tour de France crash
Richie Porte (BMC) and Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) both crashed out of the Tour De France and sustained fractures of their collarbones (clavicle). Le Tour will be a lot less exciting with these 2 riders out. We wish them both a speedy recovery.
Broken collarbone, collarbone dislocation and collarbone injuries are common in athletes when a sizeable force is directed onto the tip of the shoulder, usually because of a fall onto the shoulder.
Athletes who engage in sports like cycling, roller blading, skiing, snowboarding, and skate boarding are also prone to such injuries.
